Bookings and price

  • Can I book for just a ceremony?

Yes, of course you can. Our minimum booking time is for 5 hours. We also offer a mid-week elopement package, if that is more to your taste than a large event.

Our all-day hire option includes wedding and reception, with the option to pack-down the following morning for an additional charge.

  • What does the price include?

The different packages include different amounts of time, and access to facilities, such as camping. All packages allow access to the composting toilets for your guests, and parking, together with electricity and water.

You will need to arrange your own registrar, legal documents as required, catering, marquee hire, and other services. We can recommend photographers, marquee hire, and similar that we have worked with previously or have connections with, and can discuss with your contractors the best place to site different structures.

We will provide on-the-day co-ordination and assistance, and have a range of optional- extras that you may wish to hire, as props around the gardens, or furniture for the wedding itself.

  • Can we camp, with our guests?

Yes, of course! We offer a whole-weekend package, which includes camping/glamping for 2 nights/3 days, for up to 30 guests, including use of the fire pit. The camping area is off-grid, with composting toilets and water for washing, solar-powered lighting but no mains electricity.

We advise guests to bring torches, and can lend torches, and glow-in-the-dark tape for guy-ropes.

  • How do we secure a booking?

Please do have a conversation with us about your booking, to make sure that your preferred date is available. We accept a deposit of 20% to secure a booking.

Making our space your own

  • How can we decorate the space?

There are almost endless possibilities – flowers (fresh or dried), foliage, bunting* streamers, ribbons, paper cranes* or other paper decorations, willow (and if you use fresh willow, you could plant it in your garden afterwards), dream catchers, vintage items, tea lights in jars*…

The items marked with a * we can loan you from our supplies, see below.

We can also put you in touch with local crafts-people, to help you make garlands, or willow sculptures, for instance, before your event.

We ask guests to avoid using balloons or Chinese lanterns, due to the risk to the environment and local livestock. We also ask guests to avoid using naked flames within structures on the site, although we are happy for you to use tea lights in jars outside, or battery-operated candles within the tents and marquees.

  • Can we hire additional items from you?

Certainly! We have a selection of items that are available to hire for a reasonable rate, to cover loss or damage:

Furniture – 4x buffet tables, 12 round tables, 30 cantilever chairs, 60 folding chairs

Backdrops/props – a large metal arch, for floral/foliage decoration, floor-standing giant bluebells and snowdrops, neon ‘Love Wins’ sign, various ‘Mr & Mrs’, ‘Mr & Mr’, ‘Mrs & Mrs’ signage

Decoration – extensive sari-silk bunting, sari-silk table cloths, vintage doilies in embroidery hoops, jars for tea-lights, jars for wildflower posies, pretty bottles filled with battery-operated fairy lights

Comfort – scarves and pashminas to cover hay bales, a trunk full of blankets and throws for colder evenings

We do not offer catering supplies, and would encourage guests to either use compostable materials, or hire via Hazel Parsons Wedding Consultants on https://outoftheordinaryeventhire.com/

Practicalities

  • What about parking?

There is ample parking for up to 150 guests in our parking field, with a short walk to the gardens, and level-access tarmac parking for caterers, the registrar, the photographer, other technical crew or professionals involved, and any guests who require a shorter walk to the gardens. Please discuss with us how this would work to ensure your day runs smoothly.

  • Can we bring alcohol onto the site?

Yes. You can bring your own, or we can recommend local retailers who can run a pay-bar with a temporary license, if you wish.

  • Do you have a license for music?

We do not need a music license, as the events on the Crahan site are private events, not ticketed.

  • Is there electricity available for catering, and music?

Yes. We have ample electricity supplied to two points in the main garden area, for catering and entertainments, as well as lighting within tents. Speak to us about the details of where these lines run, and what the power output is.

The camping field has solar-powered lighting. There are no electric hookups for campers.

  • Is there water available for catering and camping?

Yes. Crahan has a private water supply, that is beautifully chemical-free, and tested, filtered and UV treated, for both catering and camping purposes. It is all drinking-quality, and included within the hire charge.

  • Do you have Wi-fi?

Yes. Both indoor rooms at the house, and the main garden area are covered by our wi-fi. The camping field, being further away, does not get a good signal, although mobile data coverage is generally good across the whole site.

  • Do you have disabled access?

All our grounds are level access, although some paths and grassy areas are slightly uneven, and some paths are gravel. We are installing a disabled toilet in the camping field which should be operational by the summer season 2024. There is parking available to the front of the house, for those who would find the walk up from the main parking area onerous.

We have indoor spaces, and quiet spaces, for those who need them, but please be aware that the venue is largely outdoors. See below for information about dogs.

We are delighted to be working with Access Cornwall to ensure that we create a space that is welcoming to people with disabilities.

  • Do you have space for children?

Certainly! Children love our garden, and running around exploring. Please be aware that, while the site is gated, there is opportunity for determined children to ‘escape’ if they wish. You are responsible for keeping an eye on them at all times.

There is a fantastic ‘grotto’ area under the branches of our fir trees, which we can ‘furnish’ with rugs and child-sized seats, as well as fairy lights. This set-up has been well-tested by many small children!

We can set aside an area for children’s crafts – have a chat with us to discuss your needs.

  • Can we bring dogs?

We welcome well-behaved dogs on short leads, and assistance dogs. Please give us advance notice of how many dogs you expect to bring, so that we can ensure that there are enough waste disposal points, water bowls, and shady areas for them.

We ask you to be responsible for your dogs, picking up after them, and ensuring that they do not stray. Our grounds are gated, but we know that a determined dog will find a way out if it wishes!

We can also recommend a wedding day dog-nanny, who can make sure your canines enjoy your special day as much as you do.

  • Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, we do. We recommend that you take out your own wedding insurance however, to guard against cancellation for any reason, and to protect any items that you bring onto our grounds, including marquees, sound equipment, camping gear, and personal items.

  • Can we use the fire pit?

Yes, if you pay for a package that includes camping. We ask that one person is responsible for safety, and ensures that no accidents occur.

Other Questions

  • Who is the artist who inspired the hemisphere structure?

The artist is Samvado, who is based on the Lizard. His creations of stone, wood and metal are often inspired by natural shapes with interesting angles and meanings. You can find more about him on his website. Our hemisphere was inspired by his 4D Sphere which sits above an infinity water feature. The structure was designed by Dave, as a centerpiece for our garden space, with Samvado's blessing

  • What’s the significance of cranes?

Cranes famously mate for life, and, as the place-name here is pronounced ‘Crane’ it seemed the perfect symbolism. In addition, in Japanese folklore, the crane is said to live for a thousand years, and symbolises honour, good fortune, loyalty and longevity. In the ancient art of origami there is a simple model of a crane, that even children can make easily. A tradition of folding a thousand paper cranes to as a symbol of hope and happiness has grown up, known as Senbazuru. Even if you don’t fancy folding a thousand cranes, we invite you to this page, to find the instructions to fold them, and maybe use origami cranes as decorations for your celebration.

We also provide instructions to make cranes on the day, or for craft workshops, if you would like.
